You’re sitting in your black and white living room, and you look around at your complete matching furniture set. You seem to have bought everything in that collection at the store, but for some reason, it still doesn’t feel quite right, and you cannot quite put your finger on it. You are sitting there in frustration, wondering why your room still feels empty. If this is you, chances are your room is lacking a little something called, “personality”.
If you are going for the minimalist style then you are fine, but if you are looking to spice up your room and make it feel more like you, then keep on reading!
Firstly, a great way to add depth and personality to your room is to add wall decorations, such as artwork, mirrors, tapestries, curtains, whatever you like. One of the main ways a room can feel empty is if its walls are bare. So a great way would be to incorporate some decor to fill them right up. Also, another way to make your room feel more personalized is to add multiple framed photographs, such as friends or family, in order to create your own art gallery wall.
Secondly, this is a very popular tip for adding to any space and almost anywhere you look you will find this tip. Add throw pillows! They can make your room look so much more alive and personalized, not to mention, seating areas are instantly more comfortable with the help of some soft, fluffy pillows. Don’t be afraid to step a little out of your comfort zone by adding a touch of color. Rooms cannot get that exciting if they are just various shades of black and white.
Next, add metallic elements to your space. Think of it this way, whenever you want to look nice, you incorporate jewellery into your look one way or another, and it is not that different when it comes to accessorizing your room to feel more like home. You can do this by adding maybe some mirrors with metallic trim, or some lamps with metallic bases. It is really up to you and your personal preferences.
Next, this tip is beneficial to your space in more ways than one. Start an indoor garden! By this, I mean placing a couple pots or vases with plants around your room. They can either be fake, (If you aren’t that good at keeping plants alive or just are too lazy to be responsible, like me) or they can be real. There are are many benefits to having plants in your home as well, not only do they make your room look and smell better but they also:
- serve as a mood enhancer
- encourage stress recovery by lowering heart rate
- filter airborne microbes, reducing 20% of dust in the household
Now by incorporating some of those tips into your living space, I guarantee your room will feel more inviting and personalized.
