Neon Pink

The color pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing.  Pink is a very feminine colour and can add a sense of femininity to any space.

What do you think of how pink is used in this space? The thing with neon that has become apparent, is that one either loves it or hates it. I for one love neon colors and find it pretty uplifting. Neon’s are full of exuberance and intensity, which is what most lovers of neon pink find appealing.

Aqua Blue/ Turquois

Dining rooms were once thought of and used only for formal gatherings. Thankfully, this trend has changed. No longer is the dining space reserved only for the best silverware and china when guests visit, but now it’s a room to be used often and on an everyday basis. This change has eased the rules of decorating the dining room.  Choose a predominant piece of furniture in a shocking color to really up the ante of your dining room. This aqua blue sideboard definitely reinstates this space back into the world of today.
For a longer-lasting addition to the kitchen, consider swapping out your window coverings for fabric shades in a fun lemon-yellow print.  This can be easily changed for any season with different fabrics, textures, tints and tones.  Pairing this light yellow with the high gloss modern kitchen is very complimentary, and adds just the amount of contrast.

Color Palette- Month of May

MayColorPalette2_thumb3

It’s May!  A month full of reasons to celebrate.  Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Victoria Day Weekend.  The sunshine has started to show itself and warm us up, really brightening up everyone’s day!  Road construction crews and spring clean up are in full effect.  This colour palette mixes aged tones, rustic wood, and bold shades of rust to create a chic, eclectic look!

This Kitchen really captured my attention when I was searching online for the month of May inspiration.  The red stained cabinets look great with the rustic originality of the wooden exposed beams and stairs. Red stained cabinets make a bold statement and work best in a kitchen with minimal adornment, especially if the space doesn’t get a whole lot of natural light.
Black appliances look sharp alongside medium to dark gray cabinets. This kitchen palette of black, white and shades of gray is understated yet so sophisticated. A touch of warmth is essential, however, to avoid a cold and sterile-looking kitchen. The rich wood floor adds the perfect dose of warmth and character.
Yellow looks modern in this contemporary stunner. The bold yellow cabinetry is balanced nicely by the light wood floor and darker wood-clad exposed ceiling. The stainless steel appliances add a cool sheen to the mix.  Really loving the track lighting in this kitchen as well.

Design Of The Day

Good Morning, i thought i would share this fun picture on this morning!

Now this is unique! An architect from New York transformed two identical 1-bedroom units, one atop the other.  By combining them into a duplex 2-bedroom home with the option to descend by the half-tube stainless steel slide. Who wouldn’t want to have this option in their home? Maybe i need to bring this up to our design team here at Sunlight Homes, what do you think?
The slide starts on the top floor near the office, and lands below near both the living and dining areas.  The image of the stainless steel curves in front of the oversized window to the city beyond.  With careful detail, the playground element is an unexpected elegant addition to this contemporary space. Not to mention a very fast and fun way to get to the main floor!

April, the month when spring begins april showers brings may flowers!  What is better then pastels and light fresh colours to help liven up the atmosphere.  A palette filled with pinks, blues, and purples on this month’s colour palette is perfect to inspire those springtime projects.

Thinking about adding pink to a room?  Pink is essentially a light red and is usually associated with love and romance.  I like the way that both of these rooms incorporate pink.   Adding this light fresh pink shade brings a lot of femininity to a room and is a big colour for design in 2013.  How does pink make you feel? Do you associate pink with certain qualities or situations?

The color purple relates to the imagination and spirituality. It stimulates the imagination and inspires high ideals. It is an introspective color, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts. The colour combinations bring a sense of relaxation and calmness.  Are you not as risky when it comes to a lot of colour?  Why not bring just a pop of colour by adding a coloured pieces of furniture.  The achromatic room is paired beautifully with a touch of colour less then 5%, not a lot is needed to achieve the look.

Blue brings feelings of calmness or serenity.  It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly.  Blue can also lower the pulse rate and body temperature, isn’t that neat!  Both of these spaces are beautifully done.  You can easily change up your home decor by replacing the accessories and creating a whole different colour scheme.  Or by paining the walls or one wall a different hue.  The blues in both of these rooms are soft and fresh, mixed with high contrast textures.

What are your favourite colour combinations for April?

Let us know.  Spring out of those winter blues and right into spring with some colour!

March Colour Palette

March Colour Palette

color_palette_cactus_illustration_yellow_green_colorful

March, a cool crisp month usually when the snow starts to melt away and the colours of nature begin to peak through.  I started thinking about gemstones and birthstones when i remember that March colour is aquamarine.  Aquamarine is associated with faithfulness, courage and friendship.  The Green- blue mix creates a fascinating yet very popular hue this time of year.  We see it everywhere, in fashion and even in home decor.

Wether you add the pop of colour into your home decor like this vintage aquamarine nightstand/end table.  It has been accented with Stain and distressed to acquire the antique mood. You can use it as Bedroom Furniture, or as a Living Room Accent. If you are a little bolder, applying it as a wall colour can be stunning.  Creating a monochromatic scheme with the lighter shade borders in the photo gives the room substance and more texture.  What are your thoughts on this colour?

Mustard yellow another popular colour for March.  For most people, yellow is a happy colour.  It generally energizes, relieves depression, improves memory and stimulates appetite.  Yellow can add a cheerful ray to your living room you could start subtly with accessories, cushions and throws, artwork, or perhaps a small accent chair but if you wanted to go all out on the theme, paint a large accent wall in a vibrant shade or even have a sofa reupholstered.  This would be a great colour to accent in the dining room, living room or kitchen, and is great to spice up those cooler grey months.

Green is the colour of nature.  It is said to bring life and a sense of freshness to a space, as seen in fresh flowers.  Being on the cool side of the colour wheel, it can bring a sense of freshness to a space.  In other avenues of life, we attribute green with money, health, and jealousy.  In the home, though, it often tends to have a calming effect.  Which i believe everyone would like to accomplish after a stressful day at the office.  Did you know guests on TV shows wait in “green rooms” intentionally, so they can de-stress before their appearance?!  It’s true.  How do you feel about green?

Which colour do you prefer out of the three for the month of March? Let us know, we would love to hear your thoughts.

Sunlight Homes & Reno’s

We worked on a project with one of our current Sunlight Homes owners, who wanted their basement to be fully renovated.  To give you a better idea of the depth that goes into our work. This will show you the efforts that sunlight homes puts into our pricing and visual aids.  We sent them a 3D design like this one that was made up personally for them, to have a clear visual on what the final product would look like.

Design of the Day- Modernized Kitchen

This Space really captured my attention today.  Mixing and matching colours for your kitchen creates a very modern look. Contrast of the white upper cabinets, dark grey with soft blue island, white countertops finished beautifully.  Adding the glass on the raised bar top contributes to the fresh light look of this space and does not take up a lot of visual weight.  Combining the blue with the orange is very complimentary as they are opposite colours on the colour wheel. The orange however isn’t to overpowering, yet a bold carrot shade that adds a punch of colour to the room.  Kitchens are spaces in a home where a lot of time is spent, cooking and entertaining.  Making it a space that is inviting and people want to be in is important, which this designer has absolutely accomplished.

The numerous mixture of textures formulate the harmony of the room.  Pairing the white lacquered cabinets with grey textured woods, the light panelled wooden floors, the unique round accent carpet and the incredible light fixture.  All of these items were selectively picked to allow your eye to flow freely throughout the room.  Without holding too much visual attention on one particular part.

What are your thoughts on the look? Do you like it? Or would you make some Changes? Comment below and let us know.
